Are bodyweight exercises or machines for fat loss better for you? Many people seem to flock towards the machines and getting an expensive gym membership. Do you really need it or will bodyweight exercises be all you need to lose fat and build some lean muscle.

Craig Ballantyne has the answer to whether or not you need machines for fat loss or whether bodyweight exercises will do the trick.

Bodyweight Exercises vs Machines for Fat Loss

Let’s talk about bodyweight exercise alternatives–can people really get a good fat burning workout just using their bodyweight and a set of dumbbells?

The answer is yes.

They don’t need fancy machines or expensive gym memberships?

No.

There’s nothing magical about machines. And to be honest with you, machines are only designed for the “average sized” person. So if you are short or tall, you are really out of luck.

If you train at home, or on the road while traveling for business, you’re not going to have access to fancy equipment. You might have to “get by” with only dumbbells and your bodyweight.

But since you only have a short amount of time to workout, say 3 sessions of 45 minutes per workout per week, it is a big help if we can pair dumbbell and bodyweight exercises together in our workouts.

(Hey, I’ve tried training a client on a Bowflex…and we spent more time trying to set-up the machine for different exercises than he did using it. Eventually we got him to get a set of powerblocks to avoid the hassle.)

On the other hand, there are dozens of bodyweight exercises we can use for bodysculpting for the lower body, abs, and upper body that require no set-up at all.

Craig Ballantyne’s favorite Bodyweight Exercises are…

a) Spiderman Pushups

b) Any single leg exercise (from single-leg squats, to split squats, to the many types of step-ups I use, to all the lunges you can think of)

c) Total body ab exercises (I try to avoid crunching motions – bodyweight crunches are limited in effectiveness, so I prefer to use total body ab exercises like mountain climbers)

d) Close-grip Pushups (these work a woman’s arms better than any triceps kickback ever will)

e) Lying Single-Leg Hip Extensions for the butt

f) Chin-ups for arms (and there’s even a really cool way for men and women to do assisted chin-ups if they are just starting out on this exercise, and I’m not talking about those expensive, gigantic assisted pull-up machines)

Best Use of Bodyweight Exercises

One of the best uses of bodyweight exercises are in fat burning bodyweight circuits. These circuits are a great replacement for regular cardio and even for intervals.

Take 3 upper body bodyweight exercises and alternate them with 3 lower body bodyweight exercises. Rest 1 minute and repeat 3-5 times for a 20 minute bodyweight workout. Bodyweight exercises are great for all us desk jockeys, because it improves our mobility and reduces upper body tension.

Bodyweight training gives you fast fat loss, at no cost, and without the need for a 2nd garage in your house to store all the equipment. You can take your bodyweight workouts outside in the summer, on the road when you travel, and even on holidays so that you don’t miss a workout.

PS – But you say you don’t have time? If she does, you do!

“I bought turbulence training because I just started working, and time had become an issue, working 70 hours a week with a family of five kids, making every minute count is a definite priority. The workouts are great, easy to follow and I’ve lost 15 lbs since Jan.
Thanks so much for this great program.”

“I’ve been employing Turbulence Training with my clients for some time now, and I can say that they are delighted with results, not only because of the fat they burn, but also because of the time they save. Program is great for busy people – basic, most efficient principles in comprehensive and practical form. And I can add from personal experience, Craig is real professional and great guy in conducting business with his clients and associates.”

I have been using bodyweight exercises for some time now working out at home with just some dumbbells and a bench. When I use to workout at the gym I always had to wait for machines and the machines restricted my movement. You actually work more muscles when you are using free weights and bodyweight exercises. My body feels a lot stronger because of the bodyweight exercises I am doing.

If you are like me then you are also always trying to find ways to cut your workout time. As life goes on my schedule seems to be getting more an more crowded. I now have 3 kids and they take up a lot of my time. Just wait till they start playing sports and have school events. I’ve been following Craig Ballantyne’s ways to “Cut your workout time” for a while now and I have been keeping up with my workouts consistently.

Now over to Craig Ballantyne with his articles on “How to Cut Your Workout Time“.

5 Ways to Cut Your Workout Time

Do you know the 2 biggest reasons men and women stop exercising?

1) Lack of time
2) Lack of motivation

Let’s tackle “Lack of Time” today with 5 ways you can cut your workout time to get your workouts done faster. After all, no one should spend more than 50 minutes in the gym.

Here are 5 ways to Cut your workout time

a) Supersets

I use “non-competing” superset. This means, choose two exercises for different muscle groups – and preferably completely opposite movements. For example, choose a push and a pull. That way, one muscle group rests while the other works…and you cut the rest time you need between sets.

b) Choose a better warm-up strategy

Don’t waste 10 minutes walking on the treadmill. Instead, use a total body circuit of bodyweight exercises as a general warm-up, and then move directly into specific warm-up sets for your first two exercises.

c) Pair dumbbell and bodyweight exercises together in your supersets

This saves you time at home (you don’t need to change the dumbbell weight between exercises) and in the gym (you don’t need to fight for 2 sets of dumbbells).

d) Choose Intervals over slow cardio

The latest research shows more weight loss when people use intervals, and intervals take half as long to do.

e) Limit the use of isolation exercises

Pick multi-muscle exercises, such as squats, pulls, pushes, and rows. If you have time, you can squeeze in some dropsets for arms and shoulders if you want. However, if you only have 3 sessions of 45 minutes per week, isolation exercises must be the first to go.

In addition, don’t spend more than 10 minutes per week on direct ab training. It’s not efficient and won’t give you rock hard abs alone.

PS – Want to Cut Your Workout Time but Don’t know where to start?

If you are a beginner, start by reading Dr. Mohr’s nutrition guidelines…eating properly will be the biggest factor in your early success.

Beginners should also start with the Introductory TT workouts to prepare their muscles for the upcoming intense training.

For others, it’s best to start with the Intermediate Level TT workouts. If those aren’t enough of a challenge, you can move onto the Original TT workout and follow the 16-week advanced program right through.

If at any time you need a break, try the TT Bodyweight 4-week plan.

And then finish off with the TT Fusion Fat Loss program followed by the 30-day Maximum Fat Loss program to cap off a full 24 weeks of Advanced TT fat loss workouts.

After that, choose between the TT for Women or TT for Muscle programs to help put the finishing touches on your physique. All of these are included as bonuses with Turbulence Training.

Cut Your Workout Time Admin Comments:

If you haven’t realized it already, you can cut your workout time with Turbulence Training workouts. That’s what I’ve been doing during my transformation. I’ve been using the workouts in the Turbulence Training for Fat Loss Manual. I started with the Intermediate workouts for the first 4 weeks then moved on to the 2K4 workout. There is about 6 months of workouts in the manual.

There is no reason you can’t cut your workout time to 3 hrs a week like I have. Well it’s actually less. The workouts are usually around 45min to 1hr. I’ve even been doing my workouts at home so there is no extra time other then my alloted time for my Turbulence Training workout.

Today’s article is the Truth About Ab Workouts. I hope you aren’t still doing hundreds of situps to try to get the six pack abs of your dreams. There are so many abs workouts out there and you never know which are the ones you will see results with. I remember in the past doing all those ab gadgets and machines and never getting anywhere. Thankfully I am no longer doing those. I’m just following through Craig’s Turbulence Training workouts.

Check out Craig Ballantyne’s Truth About Ab Workouts article below. It actually sounds a bit like what I did growing up. Hopefully this wasn’t your too. He will also give you a couple tips on what ab exercises are hurting your back and are dangerous exercises.

OK over to Craig Ballantyne with his truth about ab workouts.

The Truth About Ab Workouts

By Craig Ballantyne, MS, CSCS, CTT
=> http://turbulencetrainingworkoutreview.com/ttforabsdvds

When I first started lifting weights and doing ab workouts, I really didn’t know what I was doing. So let me tell you about some of the crazy ab exercises and training sessions I did back in the day involving ab crunches, sit-ups, and so many other ineffective and potentially dangerous exercises.

You see, I had started working out for the typical teenage boy reasons. I wanted to get big muscles to impress girls, and I wanted to get bigger, stronger, and faster for soccer and hockey.

My first ab workouts were done at the local YMCA after a few of my friends and I snuck in one night. We were those kids who went from machine to machine, not knowing what we were doing, and annoying – and probably intimidating – all of the regular customers.

And for that, I apologize, and to make it up to you, I’m going to share some really great ab workouts after I tell you about the abdominal exercises to avoid.

After causing havoc at the YMCA, I started lifting weights in my parent’s basement after purchasing a traditional York barbell machine weight set. Every other night, when I was 16 years old, I would go downstairs and do a full body workout routine followed by 100 crunches.

I did that because that is what the workout booklet told me to do.

Eventually, after buying a few fitness magazines and reading about the ab workouts of pro bodybuilders and fitness models, I started adding sets and reps of different ab exercises to the list. Soon I was doing hundreds of crunches, bicycle crunches, side crunches, and even sit-ups.

And while these exercises made my abs burn, nothing changed in the mirror. Well, at least not in terms of my abs. The weight machine exercises were helping pack on some muscle – in addition to the manual labor done at my after school job, and because of my teenage hormones.

Eventually I came to the decision that ab crunches and sit-ups were not helping me achieve my goals. By that time, I was in college and had access to a fully equipped, state-of-the-art gym. Plus, the Stability Ball had made its entrance into the fitness world.

So at this time, I was doing ab workouts that used stability ball crunches, Russian twists, and decline situps, and while my abs were sore, sometimes my back was sore too.

Truth About Ab Workouts – Some Abs Exercises Can Be Dangerous

The problem with this approach and these ab exercises is that they are all potentially dangerous for your low back. Each of these abs exercises puts your spine in flexion or rotation, and research has shown that rotation and flexion are the exact movements that cause herniated discs in your low back. Ouch.

I was shocked to find this out, but as soon as I did, I removed these from your workouts. They should be used rarely, if ever, and the great news is that you don’t need these exercises if you want to build six pack abs or have great ab workouts.

So if you find your back stiff and sore, you need to stop those exercises immediately. As mentioned, one day I stopped doing all of these ab exercises in my workouts.

They weren’t helping or making a difference for my six pack abs, but they were hurting my back. So they had to go. In reality, as long as you are keeping the fat off with interval training, metabolic resistance workouts, and diet, you’re going to have sexy abs. You don’t need to do 30 minute ab workouts.

However, you do need to do certain ab exercises to protect your back and improve your performance in sports, lifting, and every day tasks. (Great abs even help in the bedroom.)

So here’s what you need to do now. If you’re a beginner, you MUST throw away all of the crunches and sit-ups that you are doing, and you’re going to switch over to stabilization exercises like planks, side planks, and this cool little exercise called “The Bird Dog”.

These movements will help you build up abdominal endurance – and a nice flat stomach – so that you are ready for advanced ab exercises.

When you are at that point, you’ll want to use “anti-extension” and “anti-rotation” exercises like stability ball rollouts, TRX fallouts, stability ball “stir the pot” movements, and many more that I’m going to share with you in an advanced ab workouts article.

Have you been busting your butt in the gym and not getting results. So many people have. You can’t out exercise your bad diet. Simply changing your nutrition will get you the results you have been busting your butt for.

Here is Craig Ballantyne with his Quick Nutrition tips so you can change your Nutrition to get your Butt Busting results.

Quick Nutrition Tip & Workout Solution

Who else is busting their butt in the gym and not getting the results they deserve?

Almost everyone, I know, I know.

Listen, you have to fix your nutrition. No more foods from a bag or a box. Switch over to more fruits and vegetables.

Now I know you’re not just going to wake up and eat 10 servings of vegetables tomorrow. Besides, your stomach and co-workers wouldn’t appreciate it.

PS. How fast can you change your body with TT nutrition?

“Craig, thanks to the TT Nutrition guidelines, I woke up the next morning and already saw improvement in my whole body! Unbelievable. I can hardly wait to see my physique after 2 weeks of Turbulence Training.”

“At mid-life, pushing 300 pounds, and highly skeptical of quick-fixes, I learned of Turbulence Training and decided it was a program which made sense. It’s about hard work, sensible eating, and getting stronger. In less than an hour, 3 to 4 times per week, the workouts are manageable on a busy schedule. It produced not only weight loss of close to 60 pounds; my strength increased rather dramatically. I have recommended the program to many men who are seeking an efficient, yet demanding, program for fitness and healthy eating.”

Since I have changed my nutrition with the Turbulence Training Nutrition guide I have been feeling more energetic and I feel healthier. The simple little changes you make to your nutrition can make a big difference to your body. You start thinking less and less about the bad foods and cravings since they don’t make you feel as good as the new you feels. You are never too old to change your nutrition and finally get the results that you have been busting your butt for all these years.

If you are into Hard Core Fat Loss training then you won’t want to miss this Training Workout Interview with Craig Ballantyne as he takes you through what his Turbulence Training Workouts are all about. Craig tells you about the makeup of his Turbulence Training workouts and why you can get the same workout you use to get but in only 20 minutes.

Now over to the 20 Min Hard Core Fat Loss Training Workout Interview with Craig Ballantyne.

20 Min Hard Core Fat Loss Training Workout

Interview with Craig Ballantyne

If you’re sick of fluffy weight loss workouts that aren’t giving you any results, then you will love this hard core fat loss training interview.

Question: Craig, thanks for taking the time out of your insane schedule to talk with us. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your clientele and your overall training philosophy.

Craig Ballantyne:
I’m a Strength & Conditioning coach in Toronto and I write for Men’s Health and Oxygen magazine.

I work extensively with clients on advanced fat loss for busy people. I’m also the training director at www.grrlathlete.com where we provide advanced female exercise info.

Hard Core Fat Loss Busy Men and Women

Question: We have a growing number of hard core fat loss men and women leading busy lives but still love to train hard. How do you train individuals like this and still get kick butt results?

Craig Ballantyne:
I use supersets, moderately heavy weights (allowing 6-10 reps per set), limited rest interval periods, advanced bodyweight exercises, and interval training. These efficient and effective principles are the foundation of my Turbulence Training hard core fat loss philosophy.

Turbulence Training workouts are designed to crank up the body’s metabolism because of the intense demands imposed during the workouts.

After the workout, your body has to work hard (i.e. burn calories and repair muscle) to fully recover and return to a normal, resting state (that is why I compare my Turbulence Training hard core fat loss workouts to the Turbulence encountered in an airplane – a neat little analogy that people really like and find easy to understand).

I tend to stick with traditional weight training exercises, however, it is easy to adapt the Turbulence Training principles when using strongman implements and advanced bodyweight exercises.

For intervals, I tend to stick with 30 seconds of work and 90 seconds of active recovery, although it will vary between workout phases and for athletes of different sports.

The great thing about heavy weights and intervals is efficiency. You don’t have to do either for more than 20 minutes to get a great response. So if you are a busy executive looking to get lean, build muscle, and lose fat, you can get a great workout and shower in less than 30 minutes per day.

Combine Turbulence Training with the right nutrition, and you are well on your way to success.

By the way, we’ve got a secret bonus for everyone that invests in Turbulence Training – although I guess it’s not so secret anymore! Anyways, you’ll see what it is when you start your Turbulence Training journey with the fat loss program.

Crank up your Metabolism.
20 Minute Hard Core Fat Loss Workout

Question: If you were limited to a 20 minute hard core fat loss workout, what would that work out look like?

Craig Ballantyne:
Providing the individual is injury free, we will move through a general warm-up circuit of bodyweight exercises (3 minutes), and then into specific warm-up sets for the first superset of exercises (2 minutes).

Then we will spend 5 minutes on the first superset pair of exercises, and then 4-5 minutes on another superset pair. We might finish with a third superset pair or some ab work, and a 2 minute cool-down if it is necessary based on the individual’s fitness level.

On non-weight training days, we would do intervals. It would look like this:

5-minute warm-up
12-minutes on intervals
3-minute cool down

The point is, you can get a lot done in a short amount of time with hard core fat loss workouts.

Stop Wasting time. Get Craig Ballantyne’s Hard Core Fat Loss Training Workouts ==> Get your very own copy of Turbulence Training & the Nutrition Guide here

Question: What nutrition approach do you use?

Craig Ballantyne:
I had Dr. Chris Mohr, Ph.D., put together the Turbulence Training Fat Loss Nutrition Guidelines.

I strongly agree with Dr. Mohr’s common sense, easy to follow principles. There is nothing extreme about his plan. It is very healthy and effective for fat loss.

I don’t think that people need to exclude fruit from their eating (in fact we should aim to eat at least 3 servings, and preferably berries, grapefruits, apples, and oranges), but instead we should avoid white, processed carbohydrates from a bag or a box.

Foods that should be in every healthy person’s nutrition plan:
Green Tea
Almonds
Broccoli
Berries
A variety of lean protein sources

Basically, for nutrition, just choose healthy, whole natural food.

Question: Last question Craig. What is the greatest misconception that you find people to have when it comes to performing better and looking better when they come to you. In other words, they tell you everything they have been doing in hopes of getting results but the results simply aren’t there. Are there any common mistakes going on here?

Craig Ballantyne:
Most of the time I try and get people to be honest with themselves and realize they have to change things if they want to improve.

A lot of people really just want me to approve their current workout (when it is clearly not working). But in reality, they have to change their workouts drastically to finally get results.

And most people think they are eating better and using a better program than they really are.

Even when most people they list out their food intake (as I have them all do on fitday.com), some people (including some trainers that I train) still don’t see the obvious problems in their diet.

I suppose it is human nature not to see our own shortcomings, so it is helpful to have a professional review your training and nutrition or even an honest, knowledgeable friend.

Be Honest with yourself.
PS. Who else wants to burn pounds of fat with Hard Core Fat Loss Training Workouts and finally see their abs in less workout time than ever before?

“I was a high school athlete, wrestling, football, baseball. Never once did I see my abs. My waist was almost two inches smaller than it is now but I still had a covering over my abdominals. This morning two horizontal divisions appeared in the mirror for the first time. Considering how hard I have worked in the past, it is amazing that TT is able to consume fat the way it does.”

“All I can say is WOW. As a former heavy exerciser who has had to cut back due to the demands of career and family, I never thought
I’d be able to lose fat and build muscle as effectively as before. However, with Craig’s help, I was able to spend less time working out and exceed my expectations. I basically lost more fat and built muscle in half the time I used to work out. I feel like I have gotten my confidence and life back – thanks for all of your help!”
Tracey Fackler

As for myself. I use to be working out every day for 1.5 hrs and I never got the results I am getting with Turbulence Training hard core fat loss workouts. Now I have time to stay at home with my family and do 3 x 3o minute workouts a week. I don’t even go to the gym. I just use Craig Ballantyne’s Hard Core Fat Loss Training Workouts and I am getting down to my lowest body fat percentage ever. Turbulence Training hard core fat loss and the Nutrition guide are all you need. The best part is there is 6 months of workouts found in the Turbulence Training guide so you won’t get bored. Your workout gets changed up every 4 weeks to keep your body moving to the next level. Hard core fat loss with Turbulence Training is the best workout for saving time.

Are you a Supermom or Superdad that still wants to stay fit but is having a hard time because of your tight schedule? This supermom has 3 kids and still finds time to workout and watch her nutrition. She isn’t doing some lame women’s workout either. Craig Ballantyne from Turbulence Traininginterviews this supermom to get some tips for all those other supermom’s and superdad’s out there.

Over to Craig Ballantyne to talk about women’s workouts and interview the supermom.

Women’s Workout for Weight Loss

A woman’s workout should consist of leg raises, biceps curls with soup cans, and triceps kickbacks with water bottles.

Can you believe that silliness?

Neither can I, but that is what passes for “professional fitness advice for women” these days.

I could see this info being accepted in the 1930′s (maybe?), but now? Please…

Does anyone really believe that biceps curls with water bottles is going to prepare women to carry their children to bed, a bag of heavy groceries in from the car, or swing a sledgehammer during home renovations?

No way. You need real-world workouts and fat loss advice. Not fluff.

Am I the only one that finds those types of recommendations disrespectful to the physical capabilities of women? You’d think that Linda Hamilton’s chin-up scene in Terminator 2 would have turned the tide of female fitness, or perhaps Demi Moore’s GI Jane.

I’ve watched women get fit fast at almost any age with Turbulence Training. In fact, we’ve had girls from 18 to 82 years young kickin’ butt with Turbulence Training.

Today, I want to share the story of a classic “supermom”, you know the mom with 3 active kids that has to drive them everywhere, eat on the run, and still find room for workouts. Her name is Brandy Kirton, and she’ll show you how real women train, eat, and find the time to do it all with proper planning.

How a Supermom has time for Workout and Nutrition

Craig Ballantyne: Brandy, tell us about your past exercise and nutrition experiences. At what point did you find out about Turbulence Training and what persuaded you to start using it?

Supermom: I started working out back on high school. I’m 30 now.

I became a personal trainer for a few years in my early 20′s. So I learned a lot about nutrition and weight training. I have been in great shape and not so great shape in the last 10 years. I think I found Turbulence Training just surfing the web and decided to give it a try. I was desperate to lose weight after my 3rd kid.

Craig Ballantyne: And how was this a change from what you had done in the past?

Supermom: I was doing 30 minutes of cardio and then lifted for 30 mins 3 to 4 times a week. That was if I actually could make time.

I would not work out if I knew I couldn’t get it all in. I would think, “What’s the point of 20 mins?”.

Craig Ballantyne: What kind of results have you achieved with Turbulence Training? And is there anything else, besides the results, you love about the Turbulence Training programs?

Supermom: I love how it changes every month so I never get bored. I also love that I have no excuse about not having time to fit it in.

My results have been great. I am getting toned up and consistently loosing inches. I also have a lot more energy.

Craig Ballantyne: Do you workout at home or in a gym?

Supermom: I have to work out at home. No time to get to a gym.

Craig Ballantyne: Has Turbulence Training had a positive impact on your lifestyle?

Supermom: Turbulence Training has made a huge impact on me. I don’t feel like it takes up my whole day or get bored of the same thing day in and day out.

I feel strong and love the daily emails. It helps me stay motivated.

I work full time, have three kids 9, 5, and 11 months, and a husband. My older two kids play every sports so there really is no extra time.

I have to get up at 5:30 to work out before they wake up but its worth it. I feel great after I am done and no matter what happens that day I have already got my work out in which feels great.

Transform yourself into a Supermom or Superdad ==>Get your very own copy of Turbulence Training & the Nutrition Guide here

Craig Ballantyne: Do you have any social support? If so, how has this helped you?

Supermom: My mom comes over in the mornings to work out with me. I need that accountability so that I don’t sleep instead. Its hard to get up but I always feel so much better when I do.

Craig Ballantyne: What are your daily obstacles and temptations that you have to avoid with respect to nutrition and training? And what strategies do you use?

Supermom: With all the practices, games and running around I have to do its hard not to grab McDonald’s with the kids.

I try to either bring food with me or wait until I get home. If I have to eat out I do try and find grilled chicken or subway.

Craig Ballantyne: How do you plan your nutrition?

Supermom: I have to go shopping on Sunday to stock up on all my healthy food. Otherwise I will eat whatever I can find which usually is not good for me.

Craig Ballantyne: Thanks Brandy, keep up the great work.

****
The message is clear. Plan, prepare, commit, and be consistent. Brandy didn’t use any magic pills or potions to succeed, she simply found a great workout plan, and did what she had to do.

As a supermom, Brandy practically has to create time out of thin air in order to do her workout, but again, she knows what she has to do and she does it. She’s committed. She has social support. She knows the correct options for eating on the run.

She has made the effort to plan for the obstacles (lack of time, workout motivation) that we all come across. And by doing that, she’s cleared a simple path to success.

And she doesn’t waste time in the gym with slow, boring cardio workouts. Instead, she sculpts her body in half the time with the Turbulence Training workouts.

PS. Who else wants to lose the baby fat & have her best body since high-school?

“Thanks, Craig, for the best body I’ve had since high school (20 years). I have an 11-month old daughter, and long-distance running didn’t decrease my post-partum fat much at all. After 6 weeks I’ve gone down one size in jeans (and actually they’re too baggy now, too) and have the lowest body fat percentage than I had before the baby, and during years of marathon training. What appeals so much to me (besides the tighter body!) is that I can finish my workout in under 25 minutes, and get back to my family. It’s effective and efficient; remarkably impressive. Thank you!!!!!”
Christine B.

“Hi Craig – First, I LOVE your program. In just under two weeks, I have already started seeing definition – that has been my goal for as long as I have been working out (a LONG time)Keep up the GREAT work, and thanks!”
Susan Siceloff

More and more supermom‘s and superdad’s are leaving the gym because they don’t have enough time to workout. Now it is possible to still get a workout in by doing Turbulence Training at home. I’ve been working out at home for over a year now. If you look around you can purchase all the equipment needed to workout at home with Turbulence Training for less then a year’s gym membership. I picked up some dumbbells, an exercise ball, a used workout bench, pullup bar and an exercise mat and I can do almost all of the exercises.

Have you ever done Hard Core Circuit Training that made you Vomit? I know I may have almost vomited from some workouts but never have. This is an interesting article from Craig Ballantyne about how some people are doing hard core circuit training. Are these vomit inducing conditioning workouts really paying off or are they at the risk of injury?

Now over to Craig Ballantyne to his story about some of the hard core circuit training that he sees going on at his local gym.

Death of Hard Core Circuit Training and Vomit Inducing Conditioning Workouts

On Saturday morning at my local YMCA, I watched two guys do “vomit inducing conditioning workouts”. I call them “vomit-inducing” because I wanted to vomit from watching their form.

One guy was doing explosive reverse curls (meant to be hang cleans) while another did flippity flop DB snatches followed by one of the worst planks I’ve ever witnessed.

Injure your rotator cuffs and lower back much, boys?

And this is why we are going to see the Death of Hard Core Circuit Training in the next few years. Between the injuries and the vomiting, these home-made hard-core trainers are making a mockery of serious, professional personal trainers.

I mean, listen, I’ve watched two 15-year old boys make each other puke at the gym, but would you want THEM to be your trainer?

Of course not.

You want results. That’s all that matters. You don’t want to – or need to – vomit when you exercise. And you don’t want to be injured all the time either. Or am I just that out of touch with what the cool kids are doing these days?

I don’t know…maybe it’s just the grizzled ol’ veteran trainer in me that gets frustrated with the way things are in the fitness industry.

After all, I’ve been through…

“The Endless Amount of Cardio Phase”

“The Situps and Crunches Phase”

“The Dangerous Standing on the Stability Ball Phase”

and now

“The Do Circuit Training Until Your Puke With No Regard to Form Phase”.

But this too shall pass.

Of course, it won’t disappear overnight, but you and I will still be here when these “hard-core” trainers shiftily disappear and fly-by-night after their clients come in with sore backs, cricks in their necks, and ruined rotators.

You see, they don’t understand that it’s not about destroying clients.

Just the opposite.

It’s about TRANSFORMING clients. About making them better people. Challenging them to change their bodies and their lives. And yes, working through physical challenges is a part of that, but not at the expense of their overall health and safety.

After all, there’s no point in being able to do a “killer workout” if it puts you on the disabled list for 6 weeks or makes you vomit up that $4 protein shake and $5 chicken breast. Sounds a little counter- productive to me.

Listen, there will always be room for tough workouts, for trainers to take their clients to their limits, but only when done safely and under the guidelines of proven scientific research and years of experience.

In fact, I spent an hour this weekend going through an article on Metabolic Finishers that Certified Turbulence Trainer Mike Whitfield submitted for a new TT program for our members.

Now THAT is how you should do advanced, intense workouts.

Thank goodness for trainers like Mike, and I’ll be sharing some of these workouts with 91,500 TT readers very soon.

But those home-made hard-core trainers and their circuit death workouts “finished at all costs” are not going to last.

And that’s a good thing.

That will leave more room for our Turbulence Training 1 Million Mission of helping 1 Million Men and Women transform their bodies and their lives.

More room for you and I to make a difference and leave a legacy that remains long after we’re working out in the old trainers home down in Florida

The Stock of Hard Core Circuit Training is going down

So I’m calling a peak in the market. The bubble is bursting. The stock of hard core circuit training is going down, and will be replaced – starting today – with better solutions, by trainers who care about results, not locker room boasting of how many people vomited in their class today.

It’s time to change the way the fitness industry thinks about exercise. It’s time to move away from sacrificing form and function and shift back to what matters – helping you transform and redesign your body so that you get the results you want.

Not the results that some hard core circuit training, sadistic, home-made trainer wants.

Circuit training is dead. Long live smart training.

=> Smart training with Metabolic Resistance Training

To your safety and success,

Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

I think I’ve seen some of these people back when I was at the gym. Really… what benefit does vomiting have on helping your workout. I don’t know about you but I don’t care for vomiting or even working out that hard that I feel like vomiting. Circuit training is great but not to that point. Now Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training has Metabolic Resistance Training workouts that will help you get better results then any of this hard core circuit training without the vomiting.

Will your Friends & Family do a Double-Take in 4 Weeks? We aren’t talking about some kind of plastic surgery here. If you make changes in different aspects of your life regarding your workout program and nutrition program will it change you enough that your friends and family won’t recognize you next time they see you.

Now on to Craig Ballantyne who will fill you in on how you can change your bad habits in 4 weeks to form a better you.

Will you be HERE in 4 weeks?

Where will you be in 4 weeks?

I don’t mean physically, but I do mean “physically”.

Where will your body be? Will it be leaner? Fatter? More muscular? Weaker? Stronger? Will you have reached your goals?

Will your workout program and nutrition plan help you succeed? Or have you been stuck with the same body from the same old workout for the last month? (Or worse, even longer?)

With the right program, you will be leaner, more energetic, stronger, and firmer. People you haven’t seen in over a month will do a double-take.

Every 4-weeks you should also pick up more healthy habits that are easier to stick to. While it might be hard to get “an apple a day” right now, consistent practice will make this a snap by the end of your 4-week commitment.

Think of all the healthy habits you can build in 4-weeks…and the head-turning changes in your body that will result.

Always move in a positive direction, and avoid sliding back for long periods of time. And should you have a rough spell, just get back on the 4-week improvement plan – start again, with a positive attitude.

So begin your 4-week Transformation today by choosing more fruits and vegetables. Choose grilled chicken over breaded chicken. And soon, old friends will be asking “What have you been doing?!” when they meet you again.

Sincerely,

PS. Who else wants to get noticed in less than 2 weeks?

“Hi Craig – First, I LOVE your program. In just under two weeks, I have already started seeing definition – that has been my goal for as long as I have been working out (a LONG time)Keep up the GREAT work, and thanks!”

“I lost 14 pounds this month and the weight is just falling off me. My wife says I now look like when we first met and I still have more to go. I can fit into my old jeans again which is a big deal for me. I just cut back on starches and bread and do your routine 2-3 times a week. I never thought in a million years that just 10-20 minutes of weight training followed by some cardio would get me such steady results. I even cheat a bit on the weekends.”
Billy Williams

When I started to make the Turbulence Training change in my life I started with eating more fruits and vegetables with every meal as well as monitoring my total calories to get them in an acceptable range. I started adding green tea, more grilled chicken and made sure I was drinking plenty of water. I am getting ready for the change of my life in my first Turbulence Training Transformation Contest as I am planning to have my friends and family do a Double-Take when they see my six pack.

Here are some simple fat loss mistakes that most people don’t think about when it comes to fat loss. Are you making these 5 Fat Loss mistakes? I know I’ve seen many people making them and made some of these fat loss mistakes myself. I always thought I could lose fat without ever worrying about my nutrition. I had it backwards though. The first focus should be on nutrition.

Now over to Craig Ballantyne the fat loss expert to give you the 5 Fat Loss Mistakes that too many people are making.

5 Fat Loss Mistakes

Straight to it. Here are five of the biggest fat loss mess-ups that I see men and women doing everyday…fix these, and you’ll lose fat.

Fat Loss Mistakes #1 - Not having back up.

Trying to lose fat without social support is the wrong way to go about this. Ideally, you’d have your doctor, an RD, a trainer, your workout partner, your spouse, your workmates, and your friends all behind you. Research shows that you’ll benefit most from a health professional (i.e. a trainer) and a workout partner that is also successful. Get those two people on your team first, and then work on the rest of the group.

Fat Loss Mistakes #2 – Not using a structured program

If you ever go into the gym and wonder what you are going to do first, you’re already wasting your time – even before you choose. Get a plan, know what you have to do, stick to it, and see it through. That way, no wasted time wandering around the gym deciding where to start.

Fat Loss Mistakes #3 – Not changing your workout after 4 weeks.

That’s the longest you should go on one program. If it’s been 6-months, give your head a shake. If it hasn’t worked yet, why do you think it’s magically going to start now. Change it up frequently. You’ll get more results and you’ll have more fun.

Fat Loss Mistakes #4 – Not realizing your results will come from nutrition more than they will from training.

You want to lose fat? You have to eat right for fat loss. You can’t train like an animal and then eat junk and expect to lose fat. No program is that good. None. Diet beats training every time, like scissors beats paper. Eat whole, natural foods in 6 smaller meals each day. Get lots of fiber, lots of protein, lots of vegetables. Eat healthy fats, avoid trans fats. Drink lots of water and tea. So simple, so effective. Eat for energy, not for gluttony.

Get meals plans for men and women in Dr. Chris Mohr’s Nutrition
Guidelines as a bonus when you order Turbulence Training:
Get your very own copy of Turbulence Training & the Nutrition Guide here

Fat Loss Mistakes #5 – Not knowing when to quit.

I get emails everyday from readers asking if they can add even more cardio and more lifting to their current workout plans. After all, if some is good, more training must be better?

Listen, you have to draw the line somewhere. You can’t keep adding more and more exercise. First, there is diminishing returns from each additional set you do, and from extra cardio. Second, your body can breakdown fast from too much work, particularly when you are dieting. Overtraining and low calories go together like oil and water. Neither of these combos will make your engine run optimally.

And finally, focus on quality over quantity. The “volume approach to fat loss” from the 1980′s (characterized by lots of cardio and lots of carbs) didn’t work. For good reason. Stick to high quality nutrition, and high-quality training.

The only thing that matters is results. Not muscle soreness, not feeling exhausted after each workout, and not feeling deprived of food.

Quality work and quality food for a better body.

PS. Want to lose 21 pounds of body fat?

“Craig, Turbulence Training has helped me gain strength and flexibility and I use the body weight program for my cardio, both of which have helped me lose 21 pounds and 10% body fat. I look forward to your daily newsletters and tips and like the manuals you produce. Thanks for your help with my health and fitness.”

“Craig, as a working mother in my forties, I’ve found it harder each year to keep up with my workouts. Before I started with TT, I found myself just going through the motions and not really focusing on what I was doing. That’s all changed since I started your program. I enjoy working out again. The workouts are intense, but they go by quickly. I even enjoy the cardio intervals (and I’ve always hated cardio). I’m just finishing up my first four week program and I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks!”
Linda Wagner

—————————————————————————————————

No more Fat Loss Mistakes for me

OK here is the real truth. I’ve made all these fat loss mistakes. Not just one. There is so many times I never told anyone about my fat loss six pack goal. I’ve randomly gone into the gym and done whatever workout I felt like doing when I got there. I don’t even know how long I would go without changing my workouts. I worked out without any regard to nutrition and I’ve even had times when I was doing 2 hr workouts 7 days a week and I thought I was on the right track.

NOW! I have let it be known about my fat loss goals and joined the Turbulence Training forums to shout it out to the world. I have a set routine with my turbulence training workouts. I marked each workout on the calendar. Each workout changes every 4 weeks. As a member of turbulence training there are so many workouts to choose from. You’ll never run out. I am working on my nutrition and using Eat Stop Eat to help keep the calories down. I only do the turbulence training workout as specified and nothing more. Sometimes it’s hard to get you head around the fact that you only need a 45 minute workout 3 times a week.

Get out there and reach your fat loss goals today!

You’ve come to the right place if you are looking for Vacation Fat Burning Bodyweight Cardio Workouts. So many people take vacations a year and most come up with the excuse that the hotel gym isn’t adequate or that there is no gym. It’s hard finding a hotel with a gym that meets your needs. Why not change your workout to suite the hotel instead of change the hotel to suite your workout? There are over 100 bodyweight exercises out there to choose from. Lets get started.

Now over to an article from bodyweight exercise expert, Craig Ballantyne.

Fat Burning Bodyweight Cardio Workouts for Fat Burning on Vacation

You’re surrounded by nothing. Stuck in a house or hotel, miles from the furthest gym.

Perhaps visiting the in-laws, or a seminar in Independence, Ohio (trust me, I’ve been there), but you still want to do a fat burning workout.

You can’t even go for a walk because its a) raining, b) snowing, c) there are no sidewalks (hello Independence, Ohio).

So what can you do?

A bodyweight cardio fat burning workout to the rescue. Some other trainers might call it metabolic conditioning, and sure, you can do similar workouts with kettlebells or even dumbbells, but those implements can’t help you now because you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with now way out.

The only “equipment” you have is your own body, but all they taught you in gym class was how to do crunches, pushups, and flexed arm hangs. And you aren’t doing that from the doorframe here in the doubletree.

Fortunately, I’ve spent my entire adult life researching wild workouts, exotic exercises, and bodyweight movements. My bodyweight exercise obsession all started back in college, when I came home for a Christmas break in my freshman year, and had no ride to the gym, or even the money to afford a day pass.

So instead, I went through all of my old issues of Men’s Health magazine and put together a list of every body weight exercise I could find. Eventually, I stumbled across a workout that wasn’t full of crunches, situps, and plain old pushups. I somehow managed, at the age of 19, to figure out a bodyweight circuit that was tough, worked the entire body, and didn’t require equipment.

Fast forward fifteen years later, and I’m still on the hunt for more bodyweight workouts. You’ve probably used one of my bodyweight challenges from Men’s Health magazine, or found one of my workout videos on youtube.

This fat burning workout video below is probably my most famous, the no-equipment 5 rounds of 5 minutes bodyweight workout program. You don’t need anything – other than your own bodyweight – to get an amazing full body workout, anytime, anywhere.

You don’t need to be outside to do this bodyweight cardiofat burning workout, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to be out in the sunshine, getting a glorious sweat on with this intense bodyweight workout.

A minute of bodyweight exercises doesn’t sound like much, but seriously, when you get down to the brass tacks, it sure is a heck of a challenge. I’d love to know what you think of this workout and other ones like it. I have dozens of interval-type workouts that don’t require you to sit on a stationary bike or use a treadmill. And you absolutely have no need to ever suffer the ‘dishonor’ of slow boring cardio ever again.

Thanks to bodyweight exercises (plus kettlebells, dumbbells, TRX exercises, etc.), there are far too many fun workouts out there that can help you burn fat without the need for expensive, overcrowded gym memberships.

That said, you can also do a tremendous workout in a hotel room (even in Independence, Ohio), in your in-laws living room, your backyard, the park, or even your office (but you’ll want to shut the door, of course).

Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

I know what you are thinking…. Bodyweight exercises aren’t enough workout for you. I use to be into working out with heavy weights and using all the machines in the gym. I never thought I would get a workout from Bodyweight Exercises either. Then I was left without a gym membership and lack of time to workout or get out of the house to workout so I tried Craigs Turbulence Training Bodyweight Cardio 3. I was left breathless. The elyptical machine, treadmill, rowing machine and exercise bike have nothing on this workout. This blew them all out of the water.

Every time I go on vacation I can just take my bodyweight workouts with me on my phone and do them anywhere I desire. No need to find the hotel gym that’s hidden away in the back corner with limited equipment. Give these Fat Burning Bodyweight Cardio Workouts for Vacation a try and you won’t regret it.
